This wonderfully unique box features lacquered wood decorated with geometric designs made of carved wood and affixed to the box.The inner side of the top is made of inlaid wood in contrasting designs. The box is adorned with an old picture of Bukhara, Uzbekistan on its cover and has a trick for opening it. The inside is lined with a lush purple velvet. The inner portion of the box is fitted into the frame of the box and can be removed to reveal the lacquered inside panels of the frame. A piece of old red velvet has been placed on the bottom of the inner panel, likely to prevent scratching. The exact age of the box is not known, but it is thought to be from the early to mid 20th century.
There are a few scrapes and nicks consistent with age. Very good condition.
