A griffin (or gryphon) is a chimeric creature, part eagle and part lion. With incredible strength, unfailing protective instincts, and a zero-tolerance policy against evil, it is the superhero of mythological creatures.
I've drawn this beautiful creature in the galleries of the Notre Dame Cathedral. I envisioned her as a fierce protector.
My drawings were based upon studies of Harpy Eagles and Lions. I had a wonderful time creating this chimeric beast!
This etching was created on a copper plate using both etching and aquatint techniques. This was a true joy to create, and I printed each one on my press by hand with reverent care.
I designed, etched, and individually hand-printed each print in my studio in Tacoma Washington.
This is a limited edition of 75. Signed and numbered in pencil.
This edition is printed with Gamblin Portland Black ink on RIVES BFK 100% cotton printmaking paper. (This paper is produced without chemical optical brighteners and presents as a warm white.)
This edition is printed on 11in x 11in paper.
The image size is approximately 8in x 8in.
Your print without a mat comes with a 12inx12in acid-free backing board and packaged in a clear protective sleeve.
The frame pictured above is not included, but I think it looks lovely in this gothic style frame!
