OUR HISTORY

Formerly known as ‘Minority Enterprise Development Week’, or M.E.D. Week, events were initially coordinated by the Department of Commerce’s Minority Enterprise Development Agency under the leadership of Thomas Huggins.

Upon the closure of the Tampa office of the Minority Business Center, local individuals concerned about losing access to an invaluable resource, lead the initiative to aid minority-owned businesses in the Tampa Bay area.

Minority Enterprise Development Corporation of Tampa Bay, Inc. was formed from the vision of these leaders and was established in 1992 to support the success of minority-owned businesses throughout Hillsborough, Pinellas and Polk counties.

MEDC coordinates the Minority Enterprise Development Conference and hosts other events throughout the year to support, strengthen and grow minority entrepreneurs and businesses in Tampa and beyond through education, connections and community.
