"I wasn't born an entrepreneur, I became one." Tia Hoffman embodied this motto as she boldly made a dramatic career switch in the early 2000’s. Tia realized that her love for coffee could be transitioned into a career that not only filled her soul but provided opportunities, power and voice to women across the globe.
Growing up, Tia was surrounded by coffee. It was central to her community and neighborhood, but she disliked the taste of the instant coffee used by her family. It was not until years later, while working as an equine veterinary technician across the globe, that she was reintroduced to coffee. Surprised by her newfound love, Tia sprung at the opportunity to learn from a roast master at a specialty coffee roastery in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She realized that she had found her passion and it was banging at her door. So, in a leap of faith, Tia pivoted from her veterinarian career and walked fearlessly towards her dreams.
While Tia’s path to career was not always easy, it has opened many doors that not only fuel and energize herself, but women everywhere. After eighteen years in the specialty coffee industry and gaining deep experience, she opened her own company, American Woman Coffee, working with women-owned or led farms across the globe. American Woman Coffee is intentional about who they work with and purposefully puts profit directly into women’s hands. Tia also uses her deep coffee knowledge to create a tasting-guides that pair coffee with food, similar to fine wine.
In an industry where the critical role of women at every step - from farming to barista - often is overlooked, Tia has fearlessly forged her own path. “Powerful Women. These are two words women hear far less than we should.” With a goal to fight for her dreams and step boldly into her destiny, Tia Hoffman shows to all women that with determination and passion, anything is possible.
