Recently we asked Adoratherapy's Laura McCann and few questions about her experiences as a small business owner. Adoratherapy offers a variety of aromatherapy perfumes, candles and other products that are designed to lift and shift your mood in the moment. Everything Laura makes is organic, vegan and homemade in Asheville, North Carolina. Here's what she has to say!
Is there a person who has inspired you in creating your business and informing your life?
My mother inspires me. She is an artist and entrepreneur, and I think she is brilliant and lives life fully and with such great love. What gives me even more joy is in loving myself, I think I am a badass and am finally able to love myself as I am.
What motivated or inspired you to start Adoratherapy?
I was born to be an entrepreneur. My background and training in fashion makes me an agile product developer and I've translated this skill set into multiple businesses from consumer products to software.
What is one piece of advice you wish you had heard, and listened to -- in life or in business?
This is a tough one. I don't like advice. I like experiences. Advice is easy to give and often comes with out any risk for the person giving it. I do live by this mantra however: What you see is what you get. I named a [previous] company WYSWYG, and because of it and still use this as my IG handle @whatyacwhatyagt.
Have you had to overcome any significant barriers in business or in life, and how did you manage to conquer them?
I have had my share of challenges from becoming a single mother at the age of 35 with two young kids while [at the same time] closing down a multi million dollar business. But the most challenging time was when I had health problems. I shared my story on the TV show, Mystery Diagnosis. It was so crazy they made a show out of it. My health issues stemmed from stress. Since then I have reinvented myself to be able to live in soul alignment with my business.
What are your hopes for the future?
Ease & grace in all things
