Nobody can successfully shift a business quite like a woman entrepreneur. Leilanni Deveraux of Deveraux’s Gourmet Coffee Boutique made a radical shift to starting a business selling a gourmet line of flavored coffee and functional teas after the pandemic closed her transportation business. As an experienced business owner, Leilanni has set out on her next adventure with a commitment to developing unique, delicious beverages that will match your mood and improve your sense of wellness. Read on to learn more about Leilanni’s business.

Leilanni Deveraux, Founder of Deveraux’s Gourmet Coffee Boutique

It was important for us to specialize in only offering unique, deliciously flavored coffees and functional teas that can improve your wellness.

Why did you start your business? What motivated or inspired you?

I started my coffee boutique business while grieving the loss of my very successful transportation company due to the backlash of Covid and the worldwide shutdown. All of the coffee and tea drinkers around me inspired me to come up with a deluxe brand of coffee and tea beverages to offer the world.

I came up with the idea to be a coffee boutique because the definition of the word boutique means: "A small company that offers highly specialized services or products". I feel that word fit us as our goal was to offer a line of unique gourmet flavored coffees and functional teas that were not easily found at your local food markets or grocery stores. It was important for us to specialize in only offering unique, deliciously flavored coffees and functional teas that can improve your wellness.

We do not offer your mediocre, common coffee and tea flavors you can easily find anywhere on any given day. You can buy big brand names any and everywhere, but Deveraux's yummy Bananas Foster and Blueberry Cobbler flavored coffee isn't easy to find. (Editor’s Note: You can find them every day on WMarketplace!)

Why did you decide to join The WMarketplace?

I decided to join WMarketplace because it looks like a great place to network, learn and expand the exposure of my coffee brand.

What has been the most challenging thing about getting your business up and running?

Getting the business up and running wasn't the issue, gaining exposure and the opportunity to connect with the public on a wide scale was the challenge.

What has been the most exciting or rewarding part of owning your own business?

The most exciting and rewarding part of owning my own business is the feedback I receive from people who have consumed my delicious beverages.

What communities have been important for you as you grew/developed your business?

In my experience, I have found that smaller communities have deeper capacity to support small businesses than bigger cities. It seems that there's so much more red tape to try to manage in order to offer our products in big cities. That doesn't seem to be the case in smaller communities.

If you want to do it, find a way. Don't hesitate. Everything will work itself out over time. Especially when it's YOUR TIME TO SHINE!

Do you have items, photos or mementos on your desk that inspire you each day? What are they?

I have a bracelet that sits on my desk that reads "She believed she could, so she did" This truly explains who I am. I believe no one can stop me but myself!

Do you have any advice for other women who are getting started in business?

If you want to do it, find a way. Don't hesitate. Everything will work itself out over time. Especially when it's YOUR TIME TO SHINE!

If a journalist were to write a headline about you/your business, what would it be?

Are there any apps or business services that you just can’t live without that you would like to give a shout-out to?

I'd like to give a shout out to you for allowing me to join your platform! (Editor’s note: We are so glad you joined us!)

Is there a non-profit or other social/mission-oriented business that your business supports? Can you tell us about this?

We support a few women's shelters that provide shelter, affordable housing and supportive services for homeless families.

Thank you, Leilanni, for sharing your advice and journey with the WMarketplace!
